- DSIP, Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide, is a nine-amino-acid endogenous neuropeptide first isolated from the cerebral blood of sleeping rabbits. It was named for its apparent ability to promote slow-wave sleep, but more than four decades of follow-up research have produced inconsistent results — a 2006 Journal of Neurochemistry review described the sleep evidence as "extremely poorly documented and still weak" and noted no receptor, gene, or precursor has been identified [9].
